Dental Implants

Missing teeth are probably the most obvious and challenging obstacle to enjoying a beautiful smile. Regardless of how a tooth went missing, dental implants have become the standard of care for tooth replacement and denture stabilization in most cases.

Replacing missing teeth is crucial, and not just because it improves your appearance. When you have gaps in your smile, chewing and speaking may be difficult, and the empty space allows remaining teeth to move out of alignment.

Even worse, missing teeth can even lead to loss of bone and the loss of other teeth. At Gardner Springs Dentistry, we’d like to show you how dental implants can restore your smile, give you new confidence, and even change your life.

Dental Implants Offer a Healthy Solution

Whether you’re missing one tooth, many, or all of them, dental implants have revolutionized dental prosthetics for the better. Dental implants replicate the anatomy of a natural tooth root and provide a solid foundation on which to build new teeth.

Because they don’t rely on adjacent teeth for support, single tooth dental implants represent the best one-tooth replacement solution for most missing tooth problems. If several adjacent teeth are missing, an implant bridge can predictably replace multiple teeth without the risk of getting new decay or needing a root canal.

For those who have no teeth, traditional dentures can be upgraded to implant dentures with as few as two dental implants. Implant dentures can be designed to be permanent or removable and are predictably stable and secure so you don’t have to worry about embarrassing slips and movement in social and business interactions.

"These folks are always friendly and welcoming. I've had two different hygienists and they were both gentle. Dr. Gardner is a gem. He created a splint (mouth guard) for me and his patience and dedication to making sure it fit correctly was outstanding. My husband, who for many years hated going to the dentist has made a 180 degree turnaround and LOVES Dr. Gardner and staff." - Lucia R.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants may seem new, but they’ve actually been used successfully for over 25 years. So you may have heard or read about implants, but don’t understand what makes them different from other types of tooth replacement.

The biggest difference between dental implants and other types of tooth replacement is that implants are not just another cosmetic solution for a missing tooth. Dental implants actually replace your entire missing tooth, including the root!

The implant is a tiny titanium post that is placed surgically in your jaw bone by Dr. Gardner and then allowed to heal. The implant gradually bonds with surrounding bone and tissue and becomes a permanent part of your jaw.

Implants restore the appearance of your smile, but have other benefits as well. First, when your natural root is intact, it keeps your jawbone healthy. When the tooth and root are lost, the jawbone gradually breaks down. Because the implant acts as a replacement root, your jawbone stays healthy.

When the root is missing, adjacent teeth can also start to change position over time. This can cause other teeth to move out of alignment, causing crowding and issues with your dental bite. The design of a dental implant prevents this problem.

If you would like to learn more about how dental implants work and how they can benefit you, please contact our Boerne dental office, and we’ll be happy to arrange a complimentary consultation.
